Jimmy Lee Mitchell

April 29, 2025, 84, Goldsboro —

Jimmy Lee Mitchell, 84, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Born in Johnston County on June 10, 1940, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Mitchell and Florence Jones Mitchell.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Holland Mitchell; brothers, Dennis Mitchell, Sherwood Mitchell, and Cecil Mitchell; sister, Doris Pope; and brother-in-law, Bobby Capps.

Jimmy is survived by his children, James Dwight Mitchell (Diane), Bull Mitchell (Mary), Rick Mitchell (Leigh Anne), and Kay Mitchell Anderson (Randy); grandchildren, James Wade Mitchell, Amanda Rose Mitchell, Michael Lee Mitchell (Amy), Samantha Mitchell (Diego), Trish Scott, Leanne Cahall (Robert), Dustin Mitchell (Elise), Timmy Mitchell (Natalie), Danny Mitchell, and Kayla Anderson (Mustafa); 17 great-children; and sister, Carolyn Capps.

Jimmy was a man of many talents and passions, but above all, he was a man of deep faith and unwavering love for his family. His greatest joy was being surrounded by those he loved most—his family was his entire world. Whether it was sharing stories, lending a hand, or simply being present, Jimmy gave himself fully to the people in his life.

A master of his craft, Jimmy spent much of his life as an autobody repairman. His hands could restore what others thought lost, and his creativity knew no bounds. He built countless racecars over the years, pouring heart and soul into every detail. His work was not just a job—it was a reflection of his dedication, precision, and pride.

When he wasn’t in the shop, Jimmy could almost always be found by the water with a fishing pole in hand. Fishing wasn’t just a hobby; it was a way of life. He found peace in the stillness, joy in the catch, and often said he felt closest to God out on the lake. Jimmy also had a love for travel and adventure, always seeking new experiences and places to explore. Whether near or far, he cherished every opportunity to see the world and make memories.

More than anything, Jimmy lived his life with a heart full of gratitude, humility, and grace. His faith was the foundation of his life, and it showed in every act of kindness, every encouraging word, and the strength with which he faced life’s challenges.

We take comfort in knowing that Jimmy has gone home to be with his Savior, and we rejoice in the promise of eternal life.
