Joyce Trellis Zittrouer Phillips, 88, peacefully entered into eternity to be with Jesus on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Born on February 19, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Griffen Zittrouer and Grace Phillips Zittrouer.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her infant son, Brian Phillips; and husband, Edward Phillips
Joyce is survived by her children, Deborah Phillips Coates (Everett), and Michael Phillips (Blanche); grandchildren, Heather Barfield (Allen), Emily Geiger(David), Justin Phillips (Meghan), and Alyssa Jones (Will); great-grandchildren, Selah Geiger, Simeon Geiger, Greyson Phillips, Samuel Phillips, Shepherd Phillips, and Parker Jones; sisters, Paula Blalock and Herbia Thompson (Emerson), and brother, Buzzy Zittrouer (Sue).
A devoted member of Adamsville Baptist Church, Joyce lived her life as a reflection of Christ’s love, touching countless lives with her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion.
She was the heart behind bringing Operation Christmas Child to Goldsboro, turning her passion for giving into a community-wide mission that blessed children around the world. Joyce also poured her time and talents into the Wayne County Extension Club, where she lovingly crafted quilts and mentored others, always with a heart to serve.
Above all, Joyce loved the Lord and her family deeply. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and her family was her greatest joy. Her warm presence, kind heart, and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will live on in the lives she touched.
A service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service. Joyce will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
