SSA Launches Secure Digital Access to Social Security Numbers

Washington, D.C. In a major step toward modernizing government services, the Social Security Administration (SSA) announced a new digital feature that will allow my Social Security account holders to securely access their Social Security number (SSN) online. Set to launch early this summer, the enhancement is designed to improve service delivery and reduce dependency on physical SSN cards.

The new feature offers a secure, digital alternative for Americans who may have forgotten their SSN or misplaced their card. Rather than visiting a local office or waiting for a replacement card in the mail, account holders will soon be able to view their SSN instantly through the my Social Security portal, including on mobile devices.

“We are proud to offer this new digital solution to our account holders,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner of the SSA. “This enhancement reflects our commitment to providing better service to the public while ensuring that their personal information remains secure.”

The SSA emphasized that the digital SSN feature will be protected by strong security protocols to safeguard personally identifiable information (PII). By reducing the reliance on physical cards, the agency also aims to minimize the risk of loss or theft.

This initiative is part of SSA’s broader effort to modernize services and improve the overall user experience. It is especially beneficial for individuals who need to provide their SSN for non-Social Security purposes, such as employment or financial documentation.

SSA encourages all eligible individuals to create a my Social Security account and take advantage of the upcoming feature. More information is available at https://www.ssa.gov/myaccount.

As the SSA continues to expand digital services, this new feature marks a significant move toward a more secure and accessible future for millions of Social Security beneficiaries.
