Patricia Ann Hinnant Pate

April 6, 2025, 82, Kenly —

Patricia Ann Hinnant Pate, 82, peacefully departed this life and joyously entered her eternal reward on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Born in Johnston County on August 13, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Joseph W. Hinnant and Flora Fitzgerald Hinnant.

As a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, and Aunt she cherished her family above all else, and her love and wisdom will forever be imprinted on the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her.

Pat was a true outdoorswoman, and one of her greatest joys was fishing. Whether it was fishing in the creek or out on the open water, she found peace and fulfillment in the beauty of nature. She also had a lifelong love for sports, particularly her beloved North Carolina State University (NCSU) teams. Whether it was cheering on the Wolfpack or discussing the latest game, her passion for its athletic programs was evident in everything she did.

A faithful Christian, Pat was a dedicated member of Kenly Free Will Baptist Church where she actively participated in almost all activities. Her faith guided her through all aspects of her life, and she found comfort in knowing that she was always in the hands of the Lord.

Patricia is survived by her son, Maxie Kirby and wife, Shannon; daughter, Teresa Pate; her grandchildren, Max Kirby, Bailey Lail and wife, Morgan, Kaitlyn Cobb, her sister, Loraine Coley and husband, Gerald; and several nieces and nephews.

She leaves behind her working, traveling, and Bingo partner and best friend Mae Raper and her family.

In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her late husband, Jesse M. Pate; her son, Benny W. Kirby, brother, Joseph F. Hinnant, and granddaughter, Jessica Gurley.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Kenly Original Free Will Baptist Church. A service to honor Patricia’s life will be held in the sanctuary at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Aubrey Williamson and Pastor Johnny Sullivan officiating. Interment will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Kenly Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kenly Funeral Service.
