Janet Estelle Hobday Reed

Janet Estelle Hobday Reed

April 5, 2025, 81, Goldsboro —

Janet Estelle Hobday Reed, of Goldsboro, was received by her Lord and Savior on April 5, 2025.

Janet was born July 4, 1943, to William and Charlotte Hobday in Akron, Ohio. Janet attended the University of Michigan earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. It was here that she met and fell in love with Keith Byron Reed. They were married in Jackson, Michigan. They went on to raise 3 children while living in Michigan, Illinois and North Carolina.

Over the years Janet enjoyed teaching middle school algebra, working in the office at Hudson’s department store, working in a periodontist’s office and serving as a substitute teacher at Eastern Wayne High School.

Janet enjoyed playing bridge and golf while living in Michigan. Years later when asked to hit a ball at the driving range she amazed us with a straight drive in one swing with no practice. Janet was known to enjoy a good cup of coffee but even more loved vanilla ice cream. She adopted various dogs and cats over the years. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Many will remember her as classy, independent and spirited.

Janet greatly loved the Lord Jesus Christ. She knew from 2 Corinthians 5:8 that she would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. Her prayerful heart will be missed.

Janet is survived by her children; daughters, Charlotte Glaeser (Torsten) and Andrea Jacobs (Todd), son, William Reed, and grandchildren, Reed Jacobs and Rachel Jacobs. Janet is also survived by her sister, Gail Mick, brother, William Hobday (Carol) and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Keith, whom she loved dearly.

A service of remembrance will be held at New Hope Church, 200 E New Hope Rd, Goldsboro, NC 27534 on Saturday, April 12, at 3:00 PM. There will be time to greet the family immediately following the service.

The family thanks 3HC for providing support for Janet in her final days. Memorials can be made in Janet’s name to New Hope Church or 3HC.
