Myrtle Hobson Summerlin, 96, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. Born on October 18, 1928 in Wayne County, she was daughter to the late Mildred Thompson Swinson Anderson and was the adopted daughter of the late Edgar L. Hobson.

Myrtle graduated in 1945 from Goldsboro High School and was the last class to graduate in the 11th grade. She retired from the Wayne County ASC Office after 30 years. She loved her career and in retirement she loved yardwork, basketball, baseball, crossword puzzles and watching her great granddaughter play sports. Her heart truly belonged to the Lord and she was a member of Casey’s Chapel FWB Church where she sang in the choir.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Felix T. Summerlin, Sr.; her sons, Felix (Bud) T. Summerlin Jr. and James (Jimmy) Douglas Summerlin; and her grandson, Douglas T. Summerlin.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda S. Linker; her granddaughter, Karen E. Linker (Jeremy); her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth (Nikki) N. Linker (Jessup); special cousins, Sonny Edgerton and LeAnn Keen; and a special caregiver, Michael Munden.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.

A service to honor Myrtle’s life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Alan Lamm officiating. Burial will conclude at Wayne Memorial Park.
