Gurman Ralph Jackson

April 3, 2025,, 98, Goldsboro —

Gurman Ralph Jackson, age 98, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Meadowview Assisted Living in Smithfield. Born on July 8, 1926, in the farming community of Seven Springs in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Gurman and Bessie Price Jackson.

At the age of 17, Ralph answered the call to serve his country by joining the Seabees during World War II. His time in the United States Navy not only defined his patriotism but also led him to his lifelong vocation as a skilled millwright. Throughout his life, Ralph held a deep sense of duty, a commitment that extended to his involvement with the Fremont American Legion, where he proudly served in various leadership roles. A long-time resident of Fremont and Eureka, Ralph was a devoted member of Mt. Nelson Missionary Baptist Church in Eureka, where his faith and community spirit shone brightly.

After retiring, Ralph found joy in life on the farm beside his daughter and her family. He cultivated a large garden, generously sharing his harvest with loved ones. His hands were always busy, whether tending the land or helping with chores until he was 80. An avid hunter and fisherman, Ralph was a true sportsman who reveled in the outdoors, creating lasting memories with family and friends. Above all, Ralph cherished his family, and his grandchildren held a special place in his heart.

Ralph is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Bass Jackson; his son, Timothy Ralph Jackson; his sisters, Betty Mozingo and Chris Aycock; and his brothers, Sylvester Jackson and Millard “Jack” Jackson. He is survived by his three children, Judith O. Jackson and husband Gerald of Pikeville; Yvonne J. Sauls and husband Richard of Eureka; and Keith Jackson and wife Nina of Goldsboro. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, David Jackson, Stephanie Bridgers (Dean), Timothy Jackson, and Rachel Woods (Colton), and his great-grandson, Landon Bridgers. He is also survived by his sister, Edie Jones; his brother, Tom Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service to celebrate Ralph’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Sauls Family Cemetery, near the family home. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Nelson Missionary Baptist Church, 206 W. Main Street, Eureka, NC 27830.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
