Pikeville PD Teams up With Public Works Officials for Community Clean up Day

PIKEVILLE — Members of the Pikeville Police Department teamed up with Town of Pikeville Public Works officials for a community clean up day on Friday.

Staff worked jointly on a roadside cleanup effort on the areas of Pikeville-Princeton Rd east through town down Main St and onto Big Daddy’s Rd.

More than 14 bags full of litter, trash and garbage discarded on the roadways were collected.

Items collected varied from discarded carpet, alcoholic beverage containers, pillows, articles of clothing, paper/plastic bags, drink cups, music CDs, loose metal, screws, nails, cigarette butts, condom wrappers, various paper/plastic packaging, liquor bottles, tires and cardboard.

Motorist and residents can expect to see a more visible and zero tolerance approach to those who intentionally litter the roadways in Pikeville.

Intentional littering in the amount of 15 pounds or less is a Class 3 misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $250 to $1,000 and up to 24 hours of community service.

In an effort to make things competitive and fun, prizes were to be given to the individual who found the most unique item as well as the individual who collected the most alcoholic beverage containers:

Public Works Supervisor, John Wiggins discovered a full set Iron Maiden – The Many Faces of Iron Maiden three CD album.

K9 Handler, Frederick Smith collected (57) alcoholic beverage containers.

After a morning of trash collection the department staff and public works employees were treated with a steak lunch provided by Pikeville Police Chief Rodney Jarman as a small token of their hard work, dedication and commitment to the community and its cleanliness after a job well done.
