Shelby Jean Langston, 83, passed away on January 20, 2025 at Wilson Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Johnston County on May 17, 1940, she was daughter to the late James Albert Barbee and Audrey Lee Pate Barbee.

Jean was an avid reader and spent countless hours reading books of all genres. She also enjoyed her crossword puzzles and other word games to keep her mind sharp.

Jean is survived by her sons, Michael Ray Shadding and wife, Debra of Phenix City, Alabama, and Jason Wayne Shadding and wife, Tammy of Lucama; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren and her three sisters.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Lee Shadding and her daughter, Tammy Lynn Shadding.

A memorial service to honor Jean’s life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at New Jerusalem Free Will Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
