January 26, 2025, 82, Goldsboro —
Lynda Radford Haywood, 82, finished her course on this earth early on Sunday morning, January 26, 2025. She was born in Wayne County to the late Elbert Gideon Radford and Blanche Turner Radford on December 30, 1942. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Raymond B. Haywood.
Lynda graduated from Rosewood High School in Goldsboro and studied Primary and Elementary Education at East Carolina University as well as Art Education. She went on to receive her Doctorate in Education. For many years, Lynda served as a teacher and as principal with the Hampton City Schools in Hampton, Virginia. She enjoyed the opportunities given to her by helping to impact the lives of so many students in school as well as teachers in their career choice.
God was always first in Lynda’s life, above all else. Her church and church family were very important to her. Spring Hill Original Free Will Baptist Church was home for her and she loved to use her gifts and talents there for the Lord. She was currently serving at the chair of the deacon board and for many years served as the church pianist.
With a smile that brightened a room and a love of laughter, Lynda made friends easily everywhere she went. She was an exceptional conversationalist and could strike up a chat with anyone she met. Lynda made sure to keep in contact with her family and friends through regular phone calls and visits.
Lynda’s love for animals continued through her days, as she spent time watching the birds in her yard and caring for her beloved dog.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 29, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Lynda’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Al Warrick officiating. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Lynda is survived by her step-sons and their families, Johnny Haywood, Bryant Haywood and Kenneth Haywood, all of California; as well as many cousins and friends she loved very much.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Lynda’s memory to Spring Hill O.F.W.B. Church, 2127 U.S. Hwy. 70 West, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
