Helen Boone Eller, 96, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 3HC hospice in Goldsboro, N.C.
Helen was born October 1, 1928, in Albemarle, NC. She was a graduate of Pfeiffer Junior College and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an AB in Journalism. She was crowned Miss Stanly County in 1949 and competed in the Miss North Carolina pageant. While at Pfeiffer College in Meisenheimer, NC she was a cheerleader and met her lifelong partner Lewis Baxter Eller Junior, who was on the baseball and basketball teams.
In 1955 Helen & L.B. moved to Raleigh where she raised a family and worked at Hardbarger Business College, before joining the staff at Wake Technical College, serving as the Public Information Officer, until her retirement.
Helen was active in the Raleigh community, being a member of the Women’s Club, a docent at the N.C. Governor’s Mansion and was active with the Raleigh Children’s Theatre. She was an accomplished bridge player and was a member of several bridge clubs. She enjoyed spending time at Carolina Beach, N.C., collecting antiques and following the UNC Tar Heel football team with L.B.
Helen is predeceased by her parents George Travis and Delia Byrd Boone, a brother G.T. Boone, Jr and her beloved L.B. Eller, Jr. She is survived by her son Lewis B. Eller, III, his wife Katrina and sons Lewis Samuel Eller & George Dekalb Eller; and her son Brent Dwayne Eller, his wife Betsy, and their son Brent Payne Eller, his wife Lauren and daughter Caroline; and their son John Benton Eller.
The family will gather in Granite Quarry, N.C. for a private service at a later date.
The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
