Billy Gray Luper, 65, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at ECU Medical Center in Greenville. Born in Johnston County on March 9, 1959, he was the son of the late William Luper and Marjorie Phillips Luper.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his brother, David Luper.

Billy is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Whitley Luper; children, William Luper and wife, Christina, and Kathryn Luper and fiancé, Chris Hughart; grandchildren, Zoey Luper, Kora Hansrote, Jocelyn Luper, Cameron Luper, Marilyn Luper, and Chris Carroll; brother-in-law, Jimmy Whitley; sister-in-law, Donna Luper; and special canine companion, Luke.

A man of many talents and boundless curiosity, Billy was truly a “jack of all trades,” never content with just one pursuit. His ability to tinker, create, and innovate was unmatched. Whether it was fixing, building, or designing, he approached every project with a spark of ingenuity and a determination to see it through. His 3D printer became an extension of his creativity, a tool he used to bring his countless ideas to life, from practical solutions to fun inventions that always delighted his family.

Billy was also a passionate gun enthusiast, dedicating time to understanding, learning, and sharing his love for the craft with others. His expertise and knowledge were shared with those around him, and his love for the hobby was deeply tied to his respect for safety and responsible ownership.

Above all, what truly defined Billy was his selflessness. He put the needs of his family first, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word of support. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones and his devotion to them was unwavering. His home was always open, his heart always welcoming. His laughter, wisdom, and love will be sorely missed, but his legacy of kindness and creativity will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.

A service the celebrate Billy’s life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Kenly Funeral Service. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be sent to the Leukemia Research Foundation 191 Waukegan Rd, Ste 105, Northfield, IL 60093 in memory of Billy.
