Virginia Best Hollingsworth died July 23, 2024, in Cary, NC at Transitions Lifecare Hospice Facility after a brief illness. She was born to William and Ada Pittman Best in Lumberton, NC on September 8, 1927.

She graduated in 1948 from Wake Forest College (University) where she was in the first class of women freshmen. Then she graduated from NC Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed a career as an operating room nurse, especially at the NC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC.

She was blessed with a wonderful husband, Fletcher Hollingsworth of La Grange, NC, and then 2 lovely children.

She loved gardening and was a founding member of the Garden Club in LaGrange, NC.

She enjoyed playing piano and she sang in several choirs. She wanted to be remembered for the 4 “Fs”-her faith, which helped her through many difficult times, and her love of family, friends, and flowers. Her favorite motto was “If I keep a green bough in my heart, a singing bird will come”. She said many times “I have been so blessed, my cup runneth over.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and many beloved and special aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

She is survived by her children: William Fletcher Hollingsworth (Bill), of Matthews, NC and Mary Virginia Hollingsworth (Molly) of Louisburg, NC and her husband, Bart Clauss, and several dear cousins: Mildred S. Kinlaw of Lumberton, NC; David Stanton of Charleston, SC; Donna Stanton Williamson of White Lake, NC; Randy Stanton of Leland, NC; Brian Stanton of Leland, NC; John Hyce and Bonnie Barnes of Winston-Salem, NC; Reginald and Annie Clyde Barnes of Oriental, NC; Phillip Measley of La Grange, NC; and nephew Ray Rouse of Cary, NC his wife Terrie and son Cameron, and special friends Caroline and Preecha Bhotiwihok.

Services will be held July 26, 2024 at Rouse Funeral Home in LaGrange, NC. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., with service at 11:00 a.m.
