September 29, 1939 -May 10, 2024

Glen Eugene Lanning, 84, was received into the presence of his Lord on Friday, May 10, 2024. Glen was born in Tuscarawas, Ohio to the late Walter and Helen Garner Lanning on September 29, 1939. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Wayne Lanning and Donna Quinn.

A 1957 graduate of Tuscarawas High School, Glen joined the United States Army where he faithfully served our country overseas, working in intelligence operations.

Continuing his education at The Cincinnati Milling Machine Company, Glen completed his certification in their Engineering and Drawing Program. He began working with Joy Manufacturing Company in Dover, Ohio, and was one of eight staff that moved the company to La Grange in 1973. He continued working with the company through many changes of ownership, retiring from what is now Cooper Interconnect.

Active in his community, Glen had previously served as a Little League Coach, Scout Master for the Cub Scouts, president of the La Grange Chamber of Commerce, and on the committee that started the Global Transpark in Kinston. He also served as president of the PTA at La Grange Elementary School and as a Junior Achievement Advisor for several years.

A lifelong steel guitar player, Glen enjoyed performing and teaching those interested in the instrument. He was a member of the Mid-Atlantic Steel Guitar Association where he had formerly served as president, and played with the Killette Brothers in the Country Showmen for several decades.

During his years in La Grange, Glen faithfully worshiped his Lord as a member of Community Baptist Church. Desiring to be a part of spreading God’s Word, he also served as a Gideon for numerous years.

A service of love and remembrance will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Community Baptist Church with Pastors Dean Hightower and Jeremy Varner officiating. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to service in the Family Life Center.
