Willa Mae Oakley Phipps Lumpkin, 79, peacefully transitioned to her eternal resting place surrounded by her children on Wednesday, May 1st in Virginia Beach, VA. Born in Wake County, she was the daughter of the late James and Lona Mae Oakley. She was the widow of Roger B. Phipps and Jesse Lumpkin. Mrs. Lumpkin was a member of Selah Christian Church and was retired from AT&T after 31 years as a telephone operator.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday at 3:00 P.M. at Clyde’s Chapel Church with Rev. Patrick Muston officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. at the church.

Mrs. Lumpkin is survived by her children, Dolores Phipps (Michele Barnes) of Virginia Beach, VA, Roger Phipps (Lesley) of Houston, TX, and Alan Lumpkin (Patsy) of Grantham; grandchildren, Eric Lumpkin, Samantha Dudley (Brandon), Casey Minor, Jacob Phipps, and Graisen Barnes; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lumpkin was preceded in death by her brother Paul Oakley and sister Sally Oakley.
