Chief W.L. Brinson, 76, of Dudley departed this earthly life Thursday, February 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Golden Gate Cemetery in Pikeville.

Mr. Brinson was born to the late John Robert Sr. and Clyde Brinson on September 21, 1947. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in law enforcement throughout his life including as Sergeant with Mount Olive Police Department, Deputy US Marshall, Sampson County Sheriff’s Office as Narcotics Chief, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office where he served as Captain of the Detention Center and most recently retired as Police Chief with Wayne Community College. His lifetime dedication to law enforcement will be forever remembered.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Barbara Brinson; one son, Willie Nicholas “Nick” Brinson; two daughters, Nikki Brinson and Tra-c Brinson; one brother, John Brinson Jr. and wife, Mattie; one sister, Annie Davis; four grandchildren, Marqueeia Baldwin, Zarrell Sweet, Za’Leeiah Grantham and Mckenzie Gibbs and one great-granddaughter, Isabella Richardson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Brinson.
