January 1, 2024, 79, Goldsboro —
Nancy Braswell Strickland, 79, was welcomed into her eternal home on Monday, January 1, 2024. She was born in Wayne County, North Carolina to the late Dagnal Lee Braswell and Martha Louise Clements Braswell on February 24, 1944.
Devout in her Christian walk, Nancy faithfully worshiped her Lord at Jefferson Methodist Church. Supporting her church and revealing her faith through her prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness, Nancy was always willing to help wherever needed. Their annual supper fundraisers were hugely successful because of her efforts, where she would wear many hats selling tickets, cooking the food, and serving.
Employed in earlier years with TA Loving, Nancy later joined the staff at Seymour Funeral Home. Serving as the secretary in her early career, she later focused on handling insurance and working as the receptionist. Here, her skills with people really shined. She was a natural at speaking with people, being a welcoming presence, offering a kind word, and showing compassion when those who were bereaved needed it most. For the staff, she was known for her excellent culinary skills, often gathering everyone together to share a meal she had prepared.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Doug Johnson officiating.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 53 years, James Strickland; daughter, Nan Ackerman and husband, Mark of Apex; step-daughter, Lisa Pope and husband, Charles of Raleigh; step-sons, Albert Strickland and wife, Donna of Goldsboro and Edward Strickland and wife, Frances of Sanford; brother, Kenneth Braswell and wife, Joyce of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Myrtle Braswell of Salisbury; 11 step-grandchildren and 16 step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; her beloved dog, Smokey and special family friend, Nancy Summerlin.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her sister, Margie Braswell; brother, John Braswell; and step-granddaughter, Michele Strickland.
