July 9, 2023, Goldsboro —
Martha Ellen Thompson Clarke peacefully departed this life and joyously entered her eternal reward on Sunday, July 9, 2023.
God was placed first and center in Martha’s life. She was a witness to others of God’s love and mercy. She was faithful to the Lord and His church, and it was a priority to be in God’s house to worship and assist her husband in his ministry. Second, only to God was Martha’s family. “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Proverbs 31:28. She was the very epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. Never has a woman loved a man the way Martha loved her Gordon. Her heart remained his for 14 years after he departed this life. She was a loving and caring mother to her sons and “Granny” to her grandson and great-granddaughter. Her family finds peace and comfort in knowing that Martha has seen the face of Jesus and has been reunited with her beloved husband and family.
With a sweet spirit and outgoing personality, Martha never met a stranger. Wherever she went, she was sure to leave with a new friend. It was impossible not to love her kind smile and welcoming presence. She loved unconditionally and was truly loved by all in return. She will be terribly missed by her family, friends, and community.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Martha’s life at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel with Bill Garner officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 17, 2023, at Montgomery Memorial Park in London, West Virginia.
Martha is survived by her son, Dan Clarke (Sylvia); grandson, Jordan Clarke, and great-granddaughter, Kendall Clarke.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Gordon Clarke, and son, David Allen Clarke.
Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
