J.R. Daughtry

J.R. Daughtry

July 8, 2023, 87, Goldsboro —

J.R. Daughtry, 87, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus at his home on July 8, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Sampson County on November 20, 1935, he was the son of the late Frank Daughtry and Rena Bass Daughtry.

J.R. will best be remembered as a great barber. Working in his barber shop for many years, he heard countless stories of all the happenings in Goldsboro. When he would return home, J.R. could be found working in his yard. Starting with a blank slate, he was able to meticulously craft a beautiful yard to be displayed for everyone to see. In the mornings, J.R. enjoyed the men’s club at Hardee’s.

J.R.’s faith was very important in his life. He loved his Lord and Savior and faithfully worshipped at Jefferson Methodist Church. J.R. served as treasurer of his church for over 40 years.

Family was paramount in J.R.’s life. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family. J.R. will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

A service to celebrate J.R.’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. Services will conclude at Wayne Memorial Park.

J.R. is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia Daughtry and Vanessa Libby, and husband, Damon; grandchildren, Cortney Boswell, Cameron Boswell, Brittany Martishius, and Tyler Libby; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Boswell, Amara Boswell, Jocelyn Martishius, Liliana Martishius, Zeke Martishius, Oliver Libby, and one on the way, Ada Libby; siblings Jimmy Daughtry, Mary Jordan, and Johnny Daughtry.

In addition to his parents, J.R. is preceded in death by his wife, Willa Dean Daughtry, and siblings, Willie Daughtry, Rufus Daughtry, Lewis Henry Daughtry, Nancy Peterson, and Raeford Daughtry.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent in memory of J.R. to
