Jane Sasser Spurgin Hendrix passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Jane was born January 13, 1939, to the late Theorde Malcolm (T. Mack) Sasser, Sr., and Lela Kirby Sasser in Wayne County, NC. She was married to the late Ross Allan Hendrix.
Jane had a gift for teaching and leading others, which began early in her life. She was a graduate of East Carolina University in 1961. For 26 of her 30 years in education, she taught at Greenwood Middle School in Wayne County. The other four years were spent in Wilson City and Rockingham City School Systems. She was dedicated to showing young people the joy of learning. After her retirement, she became a member of the Wayne County NCRSP (Retired School Personnel).
Jane worshiped her Lord and Savior and was a member of First Baptist Church in Goldsboro. This was where she served and gave her gifts to the Lord.
Following retirement, Jane and Allan spent almost 25 years at Carolina Beach. It was their place of joy and peace and a great way to spend their days. Their saying to many family and friends was “Life’s the BEACH!”
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor Bill Rose officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Pam Lawhon, and son-in-law, Johnny Barbee; grandchildren, Jacob Lawhon and Jordan Lawhon and fiancée, Boone Moody; sister, Frances Worsley; sister-in-law, Patricia Sasser; and several loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Jane was preceded in death by her brothers, Patrick H. Sasser and J. Mack Sasser, Jr.
