April 27, 2023, 53, Goldsboro –
Larry Ray Strickland, 53, passed away unexpectedly at his home Thursday, April 27th. Born in Wilson County, he was the son of the late Elton and Winnie Weir Strickland.
Larry graduated from Beddingfield High School in 1988. He was a technician for Firestone in Wilson for fourteen years. He was also previously employed as a route driver for Pepsi and Coke.
Larry enjoyed playing golf with his friends, his daughter, Savannah as well as his sons-in-law. He loved to brag that he was Savannah’s “coach”. Larry also loved beach vacations and family gatherings. He was such a hardcore UNC Tarheel fan that no rival could handle watching a game with him. Larry also loved to watch his son, Maverick, play any sport. The apple of his eye was his first granddaughter, Presleigh. Being her “Papa” was his greatest joy.
Larry is survived by his wife, Lorienda McFatter Strickland; daughters, Ariel S. Frederick and husband, Luke; Savannah Strickland and fiance’, Hunter Thompson; son, Maverick Strickland, and granddaughter, Presleigh Frederick. Also surviving are his sister, Darlene Langley, and husband, David; brother, Gary Strickland; sister-in-law, Dana Bailey; brother-in-law, Johnny McFatter and wife, Missy, and his mother-in-law, Charlotte Perry. He is also survived by his canine babies, Sophie and Millie.
