James Willie Teachey

March 30, 2023, 86, Goldsboro –

James Willie Teachey, 86, entered his Heavenly home on Thursday, March 30, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Wayne County, Willie was the son of the late Sprunt James Teachey and Lillie Viola Ham Teachey.

Willie was passionate about three things in his life: building, preaching, and most importantly, family. Willie started his own company, Teachey Construction Inc. where he built beautiful homes for others. Along with being a general contractor, Willie was also a minister. He preached at Abundant Life Ministries in Durham, NC for many years. Willie’s pride and joy were his family’s. Nothing would please him more than spending time with his wife, Joann, and his entire family.

A service to celebrate Willie’s life will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023, at 7:00 P.M. at Bethel Church with the Reverends Steve Holder and Larry Massey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. as well as after the service. Internment will take place on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at Pikeville Cemetery.

Willie is survived by his loving wife, Joann Mozingo Teachey; children, Kenneth Smith and wife, Lori; Lisa Teachey Wells, Peggy Mitchell and husband, Phil, and Tim Teachey and wife, Heather; grandchildren, Matthew Smith and wife, Alex, Destiney Smith, Jonathan Massey and wife, Lexi, William Massey and wife, Haley, Benjamin Massey, Lance Mitchell, Alan Mitchell, Brayden Teachey, Rylan Teachey, and Kallan Teachey; great-grandchildren, Will, Cooper, Campbell, Emery, Mason, and Knox.

In addition to his parents, Willie is preceded in death by a son, Patrick Teachey; grandson, Brent Smith; brothers, Waitus Teachey, Tyson Teachey, and SJ Teachey; and special canine friend, Toby.

The family would like to extend a special appreciation to the staff at 3HC who provided Hospice care allowing Willie to spend his final months at home. The love and selflessness shown during Willie’s final days have truly been a blessing in our lives.
