Mary Rose Grant Daly

Mary Rose Grant Daly

February 19, 2023, 85, Goldsboro –

Mary Rose Grant Daly, 85, went to be Jesus on Sunday, February 19, 2023, while surrounded by her family. Rose was born on June 8, 1937, in Wayne County to the late George William Grant and Nannie Laura Price Grant. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, John Preston Daly II.

Mary Rose was a proud homemaker and enjoyed helping her husband, Johnny, around the family farm — raising chickens and growing crops. She enjoyed volunteering with the Red Cross and serving on the Wayne County Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee, where she worked hard to improve the living environment for senior citizens in her community. Rose was also a charter member of Walker Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a devout member who held many positions throughout her years. More than anything, Rose loved the life that she and Johnny were gifted raising their two children, Amy and Alan, in a home built on their love for one another and their love for Christ and his work.

As much as Rose enjoyed raising her own two children, she loved, even more, being able to keep her grandchildren and great-grandchildren while spoiling them rotten and teaching them invaluable lessons about life and love. She also taught them how to cook, garden, and serve others while spreading the light of God.

Rose was blessed with two children whom she loved dearly, Johnny Alan Daly and his wife Marie Daly, and the late Amy Rose Daly Smith. She was also the proud grandmother of Laura Rose Smith Bryan and husband William Bryan, Elizabeth Daly Smith and fiance Jonathan Edwards, John Preston Daly III, and William Alan Daly; along with her great-grandchildren Mamie Elizabeth Bryan and William Hardy Bryan III. In addition to her parents, husband, and daughter, Rose was preceded in death by her brothers, Hyman, Harold, Joseph ‘Shorty,’ and George ‘Sparky,’ and sisters, Ora Wade Holmes, Georgia Gray Price, and Ola May Grant.

During her free time, Rose enjoyed traveling with Johnny in their RV and visiting military friends. She also spent countless hours talking to her friends and family on the telephone catching up on the latest neighborhood happenings.

A graveside service celebrating Rose’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 24, 2023, in Pineview Cemetery, Seven Springs, NC. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery and during other times at her home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her memory to
