Wreaths Across America

Saturday morning at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro many turned out to honor our veterans with freshly made wreaths. This year’s event kickoff at noon with the welcome from retired Colonel Stoney Sloan followed by the presentation of the colors by Seymour Johnson Honor Guard. The National Anthem was sung by Ms. Emily Tucker. 

Retired Colonel Stoney Sloan read off the names of distinguished guests followed by a moment of silence followed by the introduction of the keynote speaker, Colonel Tammy McElhaney from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. 

Colonel McElhaney spoke to  the large crowd of veterans and volunteers. Followed by the Ceremonial Wreath Laying of all the branches of our military. USAF MSgt Eric Busse told the story of the Battlefield
Cross and what it means, as children presented  the booths, the rifle, the identification tags, and the helmet during the ceremony. 

Members of Seymour Johnson Honor Guard presented the folded Flag, followed by the playing of Amazing Grace by Eric Goins on the bagpipes. The Bandit Flight Team performed a missing man  flyby, followed by a three gun salute by members of the American Legion Wayne post 11 and the
playing of Taps by Don Peters. Retired Colonel 

Stoney Sloan gave the closing remarks.
