Friday afternoon a structure fire sent firefighters from Smith Chapel, Mount Olive, Dudley and Calypso Fire Departments along with EMS station 9 rushing to the 600 block of Waller Road. The structure was a single story small home of a handicap resident and unknowingly whether the person was at
home or not firefighters quickly dropped several attack lines on the ground and proceeded to make a quick knockdown while a second line made entry into the front door and searched the structure for the
resident.
The person living there wasn’t home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is under an investigation by fire officials on the scene. Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours making sure that all the hot spots were out.
