West Appointed to College Board of Trustees

Craig West of northern Wayne County has joined the Wayne Community College Board of Trustees.

He was appointed by the Wayne County Board of Education.

“I am very proud of this appointment and will do the best I can. I have a lot to learn but look forward to it,” said West. “We are very fortunate to have this college.”

The West family knows the college from the inside. West attended WCC in the late 1980s, taking advantage of college transfer courses. His older son Lee studied in WCC’s Agribusiness Technology program and his younger son Luke is in his first semester there, working toward an associate in science degree.

West is a partner in West Family Farms, a multi-generational endeavor that produces row crops and livestock. He serves on the boards of the North Carolina SweetPotato Commission and the Tobacco Growers Association.

He is also involved in the community and currently is as a member of the Wayne County Development Alliance board.

The 12 members of the college’s Board of Trustees are appointed to four-year terms by the governor, county board of commissioners, and county board of education.

In this state, community college boards of trustees hold their authority from North Carolina General Statutes Chapter 115D, Article 2. The law prescribes the appointment of members, describes the board’s powers and duties, and includes other details about the board’s activities.
