Southeastern Cancer Care held its annual Cures for the Colors Color Run on Saturday, September 10th at Wayne Community College. Over 500 participants registered for either the 5K or the one-mile Fun Run. Despite the rainy weather, participants gathered together Saturday morning to raise awareness for cancer and to help support those battling cancer. Participants on both courses ran through a sea of color, ending the race with colorful shirts to take home as a souvenir.
Emma Barnes, Community Development Coordinator for Southeastern Cancer Care, said, “This was such a wonderful event. It was so good to be back after 2 years off because of Covid-19. So many different groups came out in support of people battling cancer. Some families walked together wearing special shirts to honor their family member that had cancer. Others were proud to run through the color power with the hope that one day there will be a cure for all cancer types. We are so thankful for all our sponsors and participants. Because of their generosity, we met our goal of raising $60,000. That means we can provide grants to 80 people battling cancer who need help with basic living essentials. We can’t wait for next year’s event!”
Southeastern Cancer Care was founded in 2011 by the doctors at Southeastern Medical Oncology. The doctors saw firsthand the need to support cancer patients financially as they battled their cancer diagnosis. Southeastern Cancer Care is a 501 C 3 organization dedicated to providing basic living essentials to patients with an active cancer diagnosis. Available assistance includes gas cards, grocery cards, help with utility bills, and oncology prescriptions.
