Groundbreaking Held for Homewood Suites at The Maxwell Center

The Wayne County Board of Commissioners held a groundbreaking ceremony today to launch the construction of the Homewood Suites by BPR Properties on the campus of The Maxwell Center in Goldsboro. Work is set to begin on the hotel in mid-July and should last 18 months. The nearly 76,000 square-foot Homewood Suites will have 110 rooms as well as additional meeting space to compliment The Maxwell Center’s convention and meeting spaces.

“The Maxwell Center grand opening was March 1, 2018, and our goal from the start was to have a hotel to accommodate any event,” said Chairman Joe Daughtery. “Thanks to the take-charge attitude of Craig Honeycutt and the vision of Mr. Bhupen Patel, today that goal is met.”

Bhupen Patel, CEO of BPR Properties, thanked the County and City of Goldsboro for the work to get this project moving along.

“We are excited to be adding an additional property in Wayne County and think this will spur more development in this area,” said Birju Patel, President of BPR Properties.

“We are so excited to have you here,” added James Wade, venue director/GM of The Maxwell Center. “When we travel to shows and talk about The Maxwell Center, many conferences looking to book convention centers need a hotel. Now we will have one.”

County Manager Craig Honeycutt thanked the Wayne County staff who worked on getting this project here. He added that the Board of Commissioners incentivized this project and that it is a win for Wayne County and the City of Goldsboro.

Plans for the property adjoining the hotel site at the corner of Wayne Memorial Drive and New Hope Drive include a restaurant for visitors and residents. The recruitment of those businesses is ongoing.
