Eastern Wayne Elementary Receives Grant To Expand Library Collection

Eastern Wayne Elementary recently learned that it was one of 300 schools nationwide to receive the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries Grant. Written by Ms. Davis, the school will receive a $5,000 grant to expand the school’s media center collection. Mrs. Davis, was recognized last Monday evening by the Wayne County Board of Education for this achievement.

“I am honored to have been awarded one of the grants from the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries,” states Mrs. Davis. “This grant will allow me to update an aging collection, buy more diversified books, and purchase other much needed types of books for the library. Reading is the key to everything and I am so thankful for The Bush’s Foundation and how they give so much to libraries.  Thank you for believing in my program at Eastern Wayne Elementary School.”

The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries supports school libraries with the greatest needs with the goal of encouraging all students to develop a love of reading and learning. Since its inception in 2002, it has awarded more than $19.5 million to more than 3,300 schools across the country.

In a recent announcement, Laura Bush stated that she was thrilled to help students have access to updated library collections.

“Students across the country turn to books to discover the world around them, and we know that opening a new book opens the door to new opportunities and learning,” adds Mrs. Bush.
