William Gary Capps

March 24, 2022, 65, Goldsboro –

William Gary Capps, 65, passed away on Thursday evening at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Gary was born in Wayne County to the late Katie Massengill Capps Mitchell and William Lonnie Capps on January 26, 1957.

Gary had been in sales with Furniture Fair in Goldsboro for many years. He had also previously worked with Sears and General Electric. Gary loved Goldsboro Worship Center and was a dedicated and faithful servant. He had a large extended circle of family and friends and they were all very special to him. He will be missed, but greatly remembered.

A service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held by the graveside at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Danny Johnson officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

Gary is survived by his wife, Lydia F. Capps; son, Jay Brantley Capps; daughter-in-law, Trisha Capps; sister, Jean Becton and husband, Gary; brothers, Dean Capps and Robin Capps and wife, Renee; step-son, Stephen Melvin; grandchildren, Matt Jackson and wife Paige; Noah Capps, Abigail Worthington, Michael Melvin, Justin Melvin, Jacob Melvin, Brooklyn Melvin, Summer Melvin, and Bryce Melvin; great-grandchildren, Shane Melvin, Presley Jackson, and Rilie Melvin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Becky and Eddie Hales; and nephew, Matthew Graham and wife, Desiree and their children, Nate and Lucas. He is also survived by his special k-9 friends, Susie and Roxie.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his step-father, Charles D. Mitchell and son, Jamie William Capps.
