Man Charged For Fatal Fire Surrenders To Authorities

(GDN) — Authorities have arrested a suspect in a deadly home fire.

The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office says William J. Howell turned himself in at the Greene County Sheriff’s Office on Friday.  Howell was wanted on an outstanding warrant in Lenoir County for Involuntary Manslaughter.  The charge stems from a blaze on the 1800 block of Water Chestnut Drive in Kinston on November 21st, 2021.  A juvenile died as a result of the fire.

According to the Lenoir County Sheriff, detectives determined Howell was the only adult present at the residence, he was intoxicated, and he had the stove on.  It is believed Howell’s intoxication and negligence of the stove ultimately led to the death of the juvenile.

Howell was held on a $50,000 secured bond.
