Girls Basketball: Southern Wayne Topples C.B. Aycock To Remain Undefeated (PHOTO GALLERY)

Southern Wayne continued its hot start to the season by handing C.B. Aycock a 50-38 loss on Tuesday evening.

The Saints are 13-0 overall and 5-0 in Quad County 3A Conference play. C.B. Aycock fell to 5-10 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

Holding onto a 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, Southern Wayne’s Ta’Niyah Glaspie scored 10 of her 14 points in the second quarter as the Saints built up a 28-18 halftime lead.

The Saint opened the third quarter with a 5-0 run, but the Golden Falcons closed to within seven points late in the third quarter when Bailey Wood’s free throws made it 37-30.

However, despite their best efforts, the Golden Falcons could not get over the hump in the fourth quarter, and Southern Wayne left Pikeville with the victory.

Aside from the 14 points, Glaspie also grabbed 10 rebounds. Nevaeh Hines-Bass added 13 points and six steals. Jamaiya Bass scored 11 points, while JaMaya Leach finished with 10 points.

Bree Jones paced the Golden Falcons with 14 points. McKenzie Millard finished with seven points and Presley Gray knocked down two three-pointers.

The Saints host East Wake (3-11, 2-2) on Monday.
