The weather was perfect on Friday evening as several thousand people showed up in in the Mount Olive, the “Pickle Capital of the United States.” The Mt. Olive Pickle Drop event was held in the large parking lot in front of Kornegay Arena on the campus of  the University of Mount Olive. The public began showing up early with their  lawn chairs and blankets looking for that perfect spot to sit back and enjoy the food, pickles, and listen to the live music. The three foot lighted pickle descended down into a pickle jar at 7 PM sharp ringing in 2022. This year’s event featured a local group, a DJ, and several guest speakers including UMO President Dr. H. Edward Croom, followed by the Mt. Olive Pickle Co. Chairman Bill Bryant, and Mount Olive Mayor Kenny Talton.  The guests were provided with hats, noisemakers, and free pickles. A fireworks show followed the dropping of the pickle.
