Girls Basketball: Southern Wayne Turns Back Goldsboro (PHOTO GALLERY)

Playing in front of a packed gym for the first time in over a year, Southern Wayne certainly gave the home crowd something to cheer about on Monday evening.

The Saints turned in a dominant performance and defeated Goldsboro 58-24 in non-conference action.

Ta’Niyah Glaspie led the Saints with 14 points and 12 rebounds, Jamaya Leach scored 12 points, Jamaiya Bass contributed 10 points, while Nevaeh Hines-Bass ended the game with nine points.

Southern Wayne came out hot and outscored Goldsboro 18-5 in the first quarter. The Saints would go on to take a 29-15 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Saints continued to their strong play and outscored the Cougars 29-9 in the second half to get the victory.

Southern Wayne (2-0 overall) hosts Eastern Wayne (2-0) on Friday, while Goldsboro (0-2) entertains C.B. Aycock (1-1).
