Members of 20 cooking teams started setting up their equipment and tents in the parking lot in front of Mount Olive Town Hall on Friday evening. They started preparing their entries in the NC Pork Council-sanctioned whole hog cooking competition that was part of the first ever Pickles, Pigs & Swigs. The cooking had just about wrapped up by 8 AM Saturday as the judges started making their rounds. At 11 AM, Mount Olive Chamber President announced the winners on stage. They are:
- Kevin Wooten, First Place
- Kevin Peterson, Second Place
- James Wilder, Third Place.
By afternoon, a steady crowd of people had started to come to Mount Olive to enjoy some barbecue and relax with the bluegrass music. Mt. Olive Pickle had their tent set up and was giving out free pickles to attendees. R&R Brewing had several of their special brews available for the public during the event.
