The United Way of Wayne County’s 2021 Community Campaign is underway.

Tuesday, the local United Way kicked off the annual fundraising effort during a Volunteer Fair at The Maxwell Center.

Campaign Chair Bethany Perry announced they’re already 31% of the way toward this year’s goal thanks to 26 business and local partners that have made pledges toward the campaign.

Perry says 50 more businesses, Wayne UNC Health Care and Wayne County Public Schools are next to start their workplace campaigns.

United Way Executive Director Sherry Archibald says the Community Campaign runs through the end of November.

The United Way of Wayne County is supporting 20 different programs from 14 different agencies, all with a focus on health and wellness, education, basic needs, and financial stability.

Archibald also says 30 non-profits took part in the Volunteer Fair.

United Way Resource Development Director Ashlee Fritz says one example of agency and program partnerships is the American Red Cross Emergency Notification Program for the Armed Forces.

This year, the United Way is hoping to raise $850,000 to impact 17,000 lives in Wayne County.
