Air Quality Alert Issued As Wildfire Smoke Reaches N.C.

An Air Quality Alert is in effect for Wayne County and much of North Carolina.  The N.C. Department of Environmental and Natural Resources has issued the Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for fine particulates until midnight tonight.  An Air Quality Action Day means fine particulate concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.  Smoke from large wildfires on the West Coast has been drifting eastward across the country leading to the decline in air quality here in North Carolina.
