Hilda Anna Askew Witherington, 81, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by her family. Born in Wayne County on August 15, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Alvin Ray Askew and Irene Best Askew.

In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by a son, Steve Witherington; her siblings and their spouses, Edna and Leslie E. “Red” Thompson, Gretchen and Percy Evans, Melvin and Jean Askew, and George Askew.

Hilda is survived by her husband, Wilba Witherington; daughter, Kathy Ann Witherington and boyfriend, Michael Woodard and his son, Joehn of Pikeville; son, Danny Witherington and wife, Terry A. Witherington of Pine Tops; grandchildren, Amy, Nikkie, Holly, Stephanie, Danielle, Danny, Jr., and Shadow; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Lucy, Deanna, Tashianna, Vivianna, Lamont, Nathan, Trey, Bryce, and Kaylin; sister-in-law, Charlotte Askew; brother-in-law, Dallas Witherington and wife, Becky; her lifelong friend, Ann Radford Allman; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate her life in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
