The Wayne County hospital is celebrating 125 years of history in the community it serves.

On Thursday, the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting marking the beginning of Wayne UNC Health Care’s 125th anniversary celebration.

In an interview with GoldsboroDailyNews.com, Jacqueline Kannan, the Executive Director of the Wayne Memorial Hospital Foundation, talked about the foundation’s fundraising campaign that is now underway.

Kannan says they’re looking for 1,000 people to donate $125 each for a total goal of $125,000.

She says the hospital puts millions of dollars back into the community every year through charity care and initiatives.

The funds raised will go toward the hospital’s greatest needs, which can include scholarships, facilities, and technologies.

Understanding that the medical facility goes beyond bricks and mortar, Kannan says the foundation will honor the 125 Heroes that have made the hospital what it is.

Those 125 Heroes could range from the Wayne UNC doctors to the workers that keep the hospital clean and sanitary.

Kannan says they’re also looking for stories about your experiences at the hospital to show how much the hospital has meant to the community over the past 125 years..

You can learn more about the events and fundraising campaign, share your experience at Wayne UNC, or nominate someone for the 125 Heroes campaign at 125wayne.org.
