After Wayne County Post 11 won 13-2 against Hamlet Post 49 on Wednesday at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Post 11 traveled to Hamlet Memorial Park for another matchup against Post 49 on Friday.

And once again, Post 11 dominated Hamlet Post 49.

Will Albert had four RBIs, and Wayne County cranked out 11 hits as a team and needed just five innings to defeat Hamlet 17-1.

“It’s really tough when you come a long way to a new place where you’ve never been before, but I thought we came out early and scored a lot of runs early,” Wayne County Post 11 head coach Adam Pate said. “We had several boys that hit balls hard, so all around, it was a good game.”

Sam Rice’s RBI single got Wayne County on board in the top of the first.

Justin Holland then drew a walk to load the bases, which led to RBI singles from Braeden Collins and Davis Albert.

Hamlet’s Ra’Nik Little walked Will Harris with the bases loaded to give Wayne County a 4-0 lead, while Collins later scored off a wild pitch to make it 5-0.

Hamlet scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the first, but Post 49 was unable to overcome the strong performances of Post 11’s pitchers.

“We got a really good start from Will Pennington on the mound. He battled through a little adversity there and got out of a couple of jams in the first,” Pate said. “We also had good relief outings from Campbell Cunningham and Tanner Capps.”

Thanks to another RBI single from Rice, Post 11 took a 6-1 lead in the top of the second inning, while Will Albert’s RBI single in the top of the third inning extended Wayne County’s lead up to 7-1.

Wayne County pushed across four more runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Davis Albert scored off an RBI single from Austin Booth, and Rowan Watt followed with a two-run triple. Watt later scored off a wild pitch to increase Post 11’s lead to 11-1.

“Having the right approach at the plate is what we did in this game,” Pate said. “We got really good swings off early in the count and also in hitter’s counts, and I think that helped open up some good stuff.”

Post 11 kept its foot on the gas pedal in the top of fifth added six more runs to its already significant lead.

Wayne County is looking to win its fourth straight game tonight against Kinston Post 43. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at the University of Mount Olive’s Scarborough Field.
