Wayne UNC To Mark 125th Anniversary

The local hospital is preparing to celebrate its quasquicentennial.

Wayne UNC Hospital turns 125 years old this year.

Tuesday morning, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners approved a proclamation recognizing Wayne UNC’s 125th anniversary as read by Dr. Jessie Tucker, President and CEO of Wayne UNC Health Care.

The proclamation notes the hospital was hospital at the corner of Center and Mulberry Street was dedicated in February of 1896.

In 1903, the hospital was incorporated as the Goldsboro Hospital, moving to Herman Street and eventually to Wayne Memorial Drive where it became Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Now, Wayne UNC Health Care serves 154,000 patients each year through in-patient, out-patient, and laboratory services.

The local hospital also averages the deliver of 1,300 babies each year.

Wayne UNC Health Care is preparing to mark its 125th anniversary with community events over the next several months.
