It’s been an unusual academic year as learning institutions across the country adapted to pandemic restrictions.

Friday morning, Wayne Community College was able to celebrate its latest graduates with a special “Turn the Tassel” event.

Adhering to social distancing guidelines, 178 grads lined up with their friends and family and received their degrees, diplomas or certificates as WCC staff cheered them on.

Zakiya Dillahunt received her Associates of Science on Friday, and she says it was a smooth semester despite the adjustment to online learning.  Dillahunt says WCC also always provided all of the same resources even during virtual learning.

Katherine Martinez Lopez picked up her Associate Degree in Business Administration.  She says her next step is applying on the Human Resources side to decide if that’s field she wants to keep pursuing.

Sisters Faith and Liddy Stahl both received their Associates Degree in Nursing on Friday.  There are already several nurses in their family, including their mother.  Both Stahl sisters agree it is intimidating preparing to get to work during the pandemic, but they both say WCC helped prepare them for the important task ahead.

WCC President Dr. Thomas Walker presented the degrees, diplomas and certificates to the graduates as they filed through the Wayne Learning Center Friday morning.
