James “Lamont” Herring, 89, of Dudley passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley. The family will receive friends following the service. Those in attendance are asked to please wear a face covering and practice social distancing.
Lamont was born in Wayne County on November 11, 1931 to the late Esten Lewis and Gladys Williams Herring. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. Lamont was an avid sports fan, fisherman and gardener. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He would definitely light up any room.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas Herring and wife, Sara of Grantham and Jon Esten Herring and husband, George Stuhl Jr. of Florida; one daughter, Vivian McIntosh and husband, “Mac” of Dudley; daughters-in-law, Sandra Herring of Grantham and Barbara Herring of Mount Olive; one sister, Mary Ann Herring of Newton Grove; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Lamont was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Carol Herring and his second wife, LaRue Herring; two sons, Jimmy Herring and David Herring and three brothers, Esten Lewis Herring Jr., Keith Herring and Roger Herring.
The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
