Marguerite Ann Wiggins “Rita” Kearney, 82, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 at her home. Born in Wayne County on October 14, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Cabot Gordon Wiggins and Helena Marguerite Thompson Wiggins.
Rita retired from General Electric as an inspector. She was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Goldsboro. Rita was an Angel on Earth to everyone she met, the family finds comfort in knowing she is now an Angel in Heaven.
Rita was known for her green thumb and loved tending to her flowers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Roch Drozdzik officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
Rita is survived by her children and their spouses, Connie K. and Michael Myers, William Gordon “Bill” Kearney, Sheila K. Sloan, Tamera K. and James Williams, and Jim Austin and Tammy Kearney; sisters, Tiffany Warren (Alton), Tracy Seaton (Tony), Josephine Bradshaw, and Sandy Wiggins; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Arthur “Bill” Kearney; daughter, Rita “Lynn” Williams; son, Michael Andrew “Andy” Kearney; and sisters, Katrina W. Caron, Jane W. Pitchford, and Patricia Lynn Wiggins.
