Despite the chilly weather, Charles B. Aycock’s Todd Gardner — as expected — turned in another strong performance at an East Carolina 3A/4A cross country meet at the Bryan Multi-Sports Complex Wednesday afternoon.
C.B. Aycock competed alongside Southern Wayne and South Central, with South Central winning the meet.
Gardner secured first place in 18 minutes, 16 seconds, eight seconds faster than runner-up Matthew Hill of South Central. Gardner’s teammates Seth Lupton (18:46) and Curtis Simmons (18:53) crossed the line sixth and seventh, respectively. The Golden Falcons ended the meet with 42 points to come in second place.
Southern Wayne’s top runner was Jose Velasquez (18:59), who finished in eighth place.
On the girls’ side, Ashlynn Johnson (25:48), Annabella Watkins (21:22) and Haley Martin (25:51) all finished in the top 10 for the Golden Falcons.
