With so much doom and gloom information filling our news feeds, University of Mount Olive Moye Library offers a bit of inspiration and positivity. Evening and Weekend Supervisor Beth Rose shares some resources and suggested reading opportunities for readers of all ages.
“In times of crisis, we return to stories,” Rose said. “There’s no better time to escape with a good book or movie, and with access to Moye Library, you can do just that for free, without leaving home.”
Even though Moye library has physically closed because of coronavirus precautions, the library staff is still working to connect readers to what they need. Online resources are also available including ebooks, audiobooks, e-comics, e-music, movies, virtual story time for kids, and more.
Rose notes that downloading e-books and audiobooks is a great way to pass the time while stuck at home. She advises readers to visit the Moye Library website at https://umo.edu/library/ and start a book search on the homepage. From there readers can access e-books, hold, and download favorite selections to a tablet or other device. If not a UMO student, faculty, or staff member, Rose advised that all NC residents have access to NC Live through the public library system and can access ebooks, movies, comics, audiobooks, etc.
“Some of our favorites are The Stand by Stephen King, Starbucked by Taylor Clark, and Danielle Steel’s Moral Compass,” Rose shared Another e-book library is available through NC Live’s Homegrown Collection, which is a platform offering nearly 1500 e-books by North Carolina based authors. “This collection offers eBook selections for both adults and children and has genres available that are sure to capture your interest,” Rose said. “Our team is a big fan of Bloodlines of Shackleford Banks by BJ Mountford and Carolina Moon by Jill McCorkle!
Rose invites library patrons to also check out Films on Demand in NC Live for a selection of documentaries and videos that cover a variety of academic topics and also many favorites from PBS.
“While we love the e-books and audiobooks available, we’ve been spending a lot of our time at home eating,” Rose said. “This is a great time to check out our digital Free Will Baptist Historical Collection on our webpage which offers tons of documents from our founding churches including some of the best cookbooks you’ll ever find! You’ll certainly want to take a peek into these tried and true recipes! And, the great news is that this available for anyone to search for free from the comfort of their homes.”
Although the UMO Moye Library team is currently based remotely, they are actively working to make sure readers and researchers have the best tools available at their fingertips. “Feel free to reach out to us for ways to access materials, suggestions for the book that you won’t want to put down, educational resources to engage your children, or help answering your library questions,” Rose concluded.
