Local Jobless Figures Decline Before Coronavirus

Wayne County’s unemployment rate dropped in the latest figures available before the COVID-19 pandemic hit and shuttered numerous businesses across the country.  According to the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Wayne County’s seasonally unadjusted jobless rate decreased to 3.9% in February.  That’s down from the 4.3% unemployment rate recorded in January, and the 4.4% jobless rate from February of 2019.  Overall, Wayne County was ranked as having the 51st lowest jobless rate out of North Carolina’s 100 counties this February, with 2.057 persons considered unemployed.  North Carolina’s local area unemployment figures for March are scheduled to be released on April 29.
