GOLDSBORO, N.C. – Wayne Community College’s Practical Nursing graduating class of 2025 has achieved a 100% first-attempt pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN), marking the third consecutive year the program has maintained a perfect record.
The achievement represents a significant milestone for the college’s nursing program, with all graduates from the July class successfully passing the licensure exam required to practice as licensed practical nurses (LPNs). The examination, managed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), requires students to answer a minimum of 85 questions designed to assess nursing competence and clinical judgment.
“This is the third consecutive year our program has maintained that perfect record,” said Michelle Garon, WCC Nursing Department Chair. “That consistency speaks volumes about the dedication of our students, the strength of our curriculum, and the support of our faculty and clinical partners.”
The accomplishment is particularly noteworthy given that the program’s pass rate must remain within a certain percentage of the national passing average for the NCLEX-PN, which currently stands at 87.4%. WCC’s perfect score places it well above this benchmark.
The success extends beyond the Practical Nursing program. This year’s Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) class also earned a 100% pass rate, demonstrating what Garon described as “the institutional commitment to excellence in nursing education.”
WCC’s PN program combines classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory practice and clinical experience, preparing students to provide nursing care to patients of various ages. The limited-admission program offers a diploma and holds accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
The consecutive years of perfect pass rates reflect the rigorous preparation students receive through the program’s comprehensive curriculum and the dedication of both faculty and clinical partners in preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals.
