WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) has announced that high school students residing in North Carolina’s First Congressional District can now apply for a Congressional nomination to attend one of the nation’s prestigious military service academies.
The nomination process provides eligible students with an opportunity to pursue a college education while preparing for future leadership and military service.
“Service academies instill in our nation’s youth the discipline, confidence, and sense of responsibility required to succeed in serving our country,” said Congressman Davis. “As a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, serving our country in the military was one of the greatest callings I have ever answered. I encourage interested students to apply.”
Students seeking a Congressional nomination may apply to one of four military service academies:
- U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland
- U.S. Military Academy at West Point in West Point, New York
- U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado
- U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a Congressional nomination.
Virtual Information Session Scheduled for October 10
To help students and their families better understand the application process, Congressman Davis will host an NC-01 Virtual Service Academy Webinar on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
The webinar will provide information about military service academy opportunities, eligibility requirements and the steps involved in obtaining a Congressional nomination.
Students considering a military academy education, along with their parents and guardians, are encouraged to learn more about the process and application requirements.
