Rosewood 34, West Carteret 24
Down 24-14 at halftime, Rosewood pulled off a fantastic comeback against West Carteret. The Eagles scored 20 unanswered points in the second half and flew over the Patriots 34-24 on Friday.
Avante George led Rosewood’s ground attack with a career night. George rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries.
Will Harris had 65 yards rushing and one touchdown on eight carries, while Terquavis Butler and Kameron Lamm combined to rush for 45 yards and one touchdown.
“What can I say about Avante George. He had a career night rushing for over 200 yards,” Rosewood head coach Robert Britt said. “You can tell he has been in the system for four years.”
Harris also completed three passes, and George caught one pass for 12 yards.
Rosewood (2-0 overall) travels to Hobbton (0-2) next Friday.
“To say that I’m proud of our team is an understatement. I’m so proud of how we kept grinding until we figured things out,” Britt said. “Our offense really kept us in the game all night long, and our offensive line completely controlled the line of scrimmage.
“It was definitely a huge win for our team.”
South Central 22, Eastern Wayne 0
Eastern Wayne had its home opener on Friday night against South Central.
During the first quarter, the Warriors could not get much started on the offensive side of the ball, and late in the first quarter South Central’s Janari Carmichael scored a 20-yard rushing touchdown. The Falcons converted the two-point attempt to go up 8-0.
At the start of the second quarter, Eastern Wayne quarterback Trever Warren was picked off by South Central’s Zyaire Williams, but the Warriors’ defense kept the Falcons from scoring.
However, South Central took a 16-0 lead when South Central’s Janari Carmichael picked off Warren and returned it for a touchdown as South Central led 16-0 at halftime.
The Warriors’ defense held South Central scoreless in the third quarter, but Warriors could not put any points on the board in the third quarter.
Carmichael scored his second touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter to give the Falcons a 22-0 lead.
After going down three possessions, the Warriors’ offense tried to get things going, but Eastern Wayne turned the ball over on downs with two minutes left of the game. The Falcons ran out the clock, and Eastern Wayne fell to 0-2.
Princeton 58, Pamlico County 28
With the score tied 6-6 at the end of the first quarter, Princeton outscored Pamlico County 30-14 in the second quarter. The Bulldogs went on to win the game 58-28 to improve their record to 2-0 overall.
Princeton travels to Union (0-1) next Friday.
Spring Creek 48, Union 0
Douglas Davidson rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns as the Gators dominated Union 48-0 on Friday evening.
Lucas Barfield rushed for 52 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries, while Dorian Cherry and Josiah Salo-Harris combined to rush for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
As a team, the Gators rushed for 325 yards.
Barfield also completed one pass for 25 yards and a touchdown. Gabriel Lopez caught one pass for 25 yards and a touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, Robert Strickland had seven tackles, three sacks, forced one fumble and recovered one fumble, while Logan Pollock finished the game with nine tackles.
Spring Creek (2-0 overall) travels to Bear Grass Charter (1-0) next Friday.
